Indonesian opposition leader to meet Anwar Ibrahim's wife
JAKARTA, Aug 6 (AFP) - Indonesian opposition leader Megawati Sukarnoputri is due to meet Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, wife of jailed former Malaysian deputy premier Anwar Ibrahim, at a seminar here on August 28, a report said Friday. The Antara state news agency reported both politicians had been invited to attend the seminar entitled "The role of women in 21st century era of globalization".
The agency quoted organizer Yunis Sofiyah of the Siti Masyitoh Foundation as saying she received "oral confirmation" from Azizah's office.
Following Anwar's sacking in September last year, Azizah became a vocal reform voice in Malaysia and formed her own Justice Party.
Megawati's opposition Indonesian Democratic Party-Struggle (PDIP) won the June 7 elections in Indonesia taking 33.7 percent of the vote.
The seminar was scheduled to be opened by Indonesian first lady Ainun Habibie.
