Persistent reminder irks Keng Yaik By Raslan Baharom PANTAI REMIS: A ceramah at Kampung 40 Rantai near here on Thursday turned sour when a villager pestered Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik to allocate three computers to SK Ladang Huntley, a pledge he purportedly made five years ago.

Irritated by the persistent reminder, the Gerakan president said the pledge would have been fulfilled had the school's Parent-Teacher Association contacted the district education office as he had set up a special fund for the purpose.

"It is a dollar-for-dollar fund. I will raise any amount out of my own pocket. Giving donation is sap sap sui (no problem) for me but if you think I will donate just to fish for votes, I will not do so because that is an offence.

"I know you want to politicise the matter but if you think you are a hard head, saya lagi keras kepala (I am even more hard headed)," he said when the villager continued arguing.

"Please speak in Bahasa Malaysia," Lim said when the villager spoke to him in English.

The villager also reminded the Primary Industries Minister that he had also pledged about 10 years ago to build a secondary school to be named SM Changkat Keruing.

To this, Lim, who is Bruas MP, said he had contacted the Education Ministry but the student population in the vicinity did not meet the criteria to justify building a new secondary school.
