Nik Aziz: Ulamas qualified to rule country
KUALA TERENGGANU: Ulamas are qualified to rule the country because of their religious background and knowledge of Islam, Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said.
He said ulamas were descendants of Prophet Muhammad and were qualified to rule if PAS won the general election.
Speaking at a ceramah at Kampung Banggol Tuan Muda in Manir on Saturday, Nik Aziz also criticised Kelantan Umno chief Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah for taking a challenge to swear upon the Quran on Aug 31 to prove that PAS had been lying over the issue of the Kelantan Deputy Mentri Besar's post in past state elections.
He said Tengku Razaleigh was not qualified to do thus because of his shallow knowledge of the teachings in the Quran.
"To Tengku Razaleigh, there is no difference between holding the holy book and coconut husk (sabut)," he said.
