PETALING JAYA: The Chinese community in the country must unite to ensure a big victory for the Barisan Nasional in the coming general election, said MCA vice-president Datuk Ong Ka Ting.
He said the Chinese could not afford splits in political power.
"We must have a Chinese leader who can represent us and fight for our rights in the Government," he said.
Ong, also the Deputy Home Minister, said the number of Chinese population had not dropped drastically but it was the percentage of the Chinese population over the total population that had decreased over the years.
Ong described the move of some Chinese who joined the opposition as a weekening factor of Chinese unity.
"We have been so used to religious freedom and other basic rights," he said yesterday at the ghost festival celebration organised by the Persatuan Perayaan Poh Toh PJ SS2 here.
