Youth chief: Students feel Act can be better
KUALA LUMPUR: The "silent majority" of students feel that the weaknesses of the Universities and University Colleges Act (UUCA) are merely superficial, Barisan Nasional Youth chief Datuk Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said.
"They are not willing to go to the streets to demonstrate nor send memoranda. But this doesn't mean they do not care about the issues that are debated." He said these were the initial findings the movement arrived at when seeking views on a proposal to review the Act.
The students felt that the weaknesses could be corrected with better understanding among the enforcement authorities, he told reporters after chairing an Umno Youth exco meeting yesterday.
Hishammuddin said the Barisan Youth may need almost two months to gather views on allegations that the Act had suppressed students.
