Sebenarnya mereka takut dan menggiggil dengan pendedahan ini. Rakyat sedia maklum bahawa mereka ini semua pengkhianat negara yang benar. Mereka menipu rakyat secara terang-terangan di siang hari.

KUALA LUMPUR: Government leaders have described the move by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to keep government document overseas as serious and a treachery while Umno Youth wants legal action to be taken.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said he was "shocked and utterly disappointed" and described the former Deputy Prime Minister's act as irresponsible and treacherous.

Met in Kuching after chairing a meeting on the Barisan Nasional's 25th anniversary celebrations, Abdullah, who is also Home Minister, declined to say if action would be taken against Anwar's former political secretary Mohamad Ezam Mohd Nor.

"What has happened is certainly very serious. What will happen if these documents are lost or fall into the hands of someone else?" he said.

Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, who was present at the meeting, said Anwar had betrayed the trust placed on him by the country and the people.

Umno Youth acting chief Datuk Hishammuddin Hussein said that anyone responsible for such a thing was committing treason.

He wanted the Government to investigate and identify the high-ranking officials who smuggled top-secret information out of the country for Anwar.

"Such an act cannot be forgiven as it violates the Penal Code and the Official Secrets Act (OSA) 1973 and will tarnish the credibility and integrity of civil servants," he said in a statement yesterday.

In Kota Baru, state Umno liaison chief Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah said that Anwar was a traitor, adding that "in olden days, the Sultan would have him and his family executed" for treachery.

"The Sultan would also confiscate his property," Tengku Razaleigh said after a state Umno liaison committee meeting here.

His deputy Datuk Anuar Musa, who is also Rural Development Minister, described Anwar's act as blackmail.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Paduka Ibrahim Ali, who also attended the party meeting, said that Ezam's revelation proved that Anwar was a traitor and a leader of no credibility.

In Taiping, MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said that Anwar and his cronies should reveal all the documents at once if they were a responsible lot.
