KEPALA BATAS: Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi reminded Muslims to be moderate in their approach and avoid any forms of extremism.

The Deputy Prime Minister said Muslims should also fulfil their religious duties and obligations and at the same time maintain the spirit of brotherhood.

"In a multi-racial society like ours, we should live in peace and harmony with our non-Muslim friends.

"The non-Muslims also want to live in peace and thus it is important for Muslims to compromise and avoid any kind of extremism.

"We should uphold the spirit of a caring society and work together in order for our country to progress further," he said when opening the Ceramah Perdana at SM Sri Muda, Penaga here on Saturday night.

About 5,000 people attended the religious talk which was sponsored by EON.

At the function, Abdullah also presented cheques totalling RM865,000 to the Daeratul Maarafil Wataniah religious schools in Kepala Batas and Guar Perahu.

Abdullah said the country had, since independence, experienced tremendous development which was enjoyed by the people.

"Malaysians are able to establish big corporations like EON and Hicom which provide jobs for the people.

"These companies plough back the profits of their investments towards good causes," he added.
