PAS' partners to contest in seven Kedah state seats

ALOR STAR: PAS will contest in all the Malay-majority state seats in Kedah while Parti Keadilan Nasional and DAP candidates will be fielded in the remaining seven mixed-population constituencies.

PAS president Datuk Fadzil Noor said yesterday the "understanding" would be sealed at a meeting between the opposition parties here soon.

Fadzil ruled out any "import" candidates for the state constituencies but admitted there may be a few from "other states" to contest for parliamentary seats.

He said the opposition front was now in the final stages of seat allocations although distribution in his home state of Kedah was almost "over."

Kedah has 36 state and 15 parliamentary constituencies. In the previous general election PAS won only two state seats.

However, PAS is predicting to win at least 17 state seats in the coming elections.

The state seats which are likely to be given to Parti Keadilan and DAP are Kota Darulaman, Lunas, Bakar Arang, Kulim, Gurun, Sidam and Bukit Selambau.

All these constituencies have mixed populations although the Chinese and Indians form the majority.

Fadzil also confirmed that PAS would field a candidate in Kubang Pasu to contest against Prime Minister and Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
