Anwar's action is an act of bravery, claims Keadilan

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's action to stash secret Government documents outside the country is "an act of bravery," Parti Keadilan Nasional said yesterday.

Its secretary-general Anuar Tahir claimed Anwar should not be faulted for his action which was out of a "sense of responsibility and love for the country."

He believed Anwar had always stood up against abuse of power, breach of trust, misappropriation of the country's funds and "so, Anwar's action is sincere and should be appreciated."

Anuar claimed the Government was trying to divert attention from the issue and contents of the documents by labelling Anwar a traitor.

He added that Anwar had lodged three police reports--on Perwaja Steel, and two ministers' allegedly wrongdoings.

"The police should speed up investigations on these and be transparent, fair and carry these out without fear or favour," he said.

On Sunday, Barisan Nasional Youth lodged a report against Keadilan Youth chief Mohamad Ezam Mohd Nor for allegedly a "serious treacherous act" against the Government.

Ezam, who was political secretary to Anwar, had said in a speech that his former boss had stashed away six to seven boxes of secret government documents outside the country and this would be "revealed one by one".

In Alor Star, PAS president Datuk Fadzil Noor proposed the setting up of a special commission to investigate claims that government documents were kept abroad by Anwar.
