Exco meeting to heal Wanita Umno

By Shahanaaz Sher Habib

KUALA LUMPUR: The Wanita Umno exco meeting today will attempt to "heal" the movement which has been racked by internal squabbles and controversy recently.

Information chief Datin Paduka Fatimah Suhaimi said she hoped exco members would "sincerely" put the recent crisis behind them and move on as a team in the interest of the party.

"I hope Wanita chief Datuk Dr Siti Zaharah Sulaiman and those who were unhappy with the reshuffle which had been called off will sit down together at the meeting with an open mind.

"They should focus on the positive and not the negative as we have to win the hearts of the people to ensure an overwhelming victory for Barisan Nasional in the general election. Other matters can wait until some other time."

Fatimah said in the past, Dr Siti Zaharah had listened to advice from her team of excos and hoped she would do the same now. "A wound can be healed if the medicine is good."

Dr Siti Zaharah ruffled a few feathers when she reshuffled the wing's line up.

As the result of the dissension and unhappiness it caused, party president Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad had to intervene and advise the Wanita chief to rescind the reshuffle.

Following that, there was even a call from an exco member to move a no-confidence motion against the Wanita chief.

Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Khalil Yaakob will sit in today's meeting which is expected to touch on Datuk Maznah Hamid's comments that the movement was split into camps supporting Dr Siti Zaharah, former Wanita chief Datuk Seri Rafidah Aziz and deputy chief Datuk Napsiah Omar.
