============================================================================================================================== Sanusi: PAS shows no respect for laws

ALOR STAR: The promise made by PAS to free former deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has indicated that the party does not plan to uphold the country's constitution and laws, Mentri Besar Tan Sri Sanusi Junid said.

He said by making the claim, PAS intended to abuse power should it come to rule the country.

"We have to respect the constitution and laws of the country. However, PAS thinks it can rule the country at its whims and fancies if it comes into power," he said here yesterday.

He said PAS was now making claims that it would free the jailed former Umno leader because the party no longer had anything to talk about.

"It is still harping on the Anwar issue when everybody knows he (Anwar) is not an issue anymore," he said after chairing an exco meeting here yesterday.

Sanusi was commenting on the claim made by PAS deputy president Ustaz Abdul Hadi Awang during a PAS ceramah on Tuesday night.

He said all PAS ceramahs now centred only on Anwar and this would not help it win the elections.

"This is because more of Anwar is now coming out in the open. Take for instance the claim that he kept government documents overseas which is treason," he added.

He said once government documents ended up elsewhere, the security aspect was always a question.

"Enemies of the country may seek to buy them or the keeper could be tempted to sell them, knowing fully well what he or they are doing can harm the country," he added.

Meanwhile, Abdul Hadi when contacted in Terengganu, said Anwar had yet to be found guilty by the courts.

"His case is pending appeal. He is still awaiting his outcome and he should not be jailed."

He said PAS would free Anwar should it come to power by winning the elections.
