Tindakan Pemuda BN untuk kaji AUKU adalah satu gimik politik. Takkan Si Kepala Taik nak setuju kerana dia yang buat pindaan AUKU dulu. Rakyat tahu BN tidak akan buat perubahan ini.

Ia hanya satu gimik politik murahan.

======================================================================================================================================================== Study of Act 'not a gimmick' By Shahanaaz Sher Habib KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional Youth yesterday defended its study of the Universities and University Colleges Act, saying that it is not a political gimmick.

Its acting chief Datuk Hishammuddin Hussein said the effort stemmed from a realisation that the undergraduates would be constituents in the future.

"They are the ones who are going to decide whether we are going to be credible and whether our voice will be heard or not.

"Whether we like it or not, whether it is a gimmick or not, the fact remains that in the next millennium, their voices must be heard.

"If not, our own position and Umno and Barisan Youth will be at risk.

"The end result is the relevance and survival of the party and movement," he said after chairing the Barisan Youth meeting yesterday.

Hishammuddin said Barisan was sincere in realising this and the fact that it had to "look further than just the general election."

"This, we can only prove with time," he said.

He was asked whether the study of the Act was a political gimmick, given the fact that the general election was around the corner and that Barisan Youth had never wanted to review it previously.

Recently, following a Gerakan Youth call, Barisan Youth had agreed to study the Act, which students claim denies them freedom of speech and association.

Hishammuddin said Barisan Youth had set up a secretariat to review and collect feedback on the Act and other grievances from the students.

"Give us a chance and give us your views. There is nothing you (students) can say that will shock or hurt us," he said.

He said the study would be completed in about two months.

Hishammuddin added that where there were weaknesses which reflected directly on provisions of the Act, the Youth movement would suggest these be "overcome".

He, however, noted that most university students were ignorant of details of the Act.

Citing an example, he said, Section 16 of the Act allowed undergraduates to participate in political parties if they had permission from their deputy vice-chancellors, but most students did not know this.
