Sabah MCA gets ready for election

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah MCA has been placed on election mode with an order to all its 18 divisions to activate their respective operations rooms.

"We are not going to wait for the announcement of Parliament's dissolution to get moving," newly appointed Sabah MCA liaison committee chairman Datuk Edward Khoo Keok Hai said yesterday.

He said the party leaders and members would also work hard to reverse a trend of opposition party candidates winning parliamentary seats in some of Sabah's urban areas where the Chinese make up the majority of voters.

"There is no single answer to this situation but it's just a matter of everyone working harder," Khoo said after chairing his first state MCA liaison committee meeting here.

He, however, noted that all of Sabah's 20 parliamentary constituencies comprised various races and no one community could determine the results of a particular seat.

To a question on whether Sabah MCA would be fielding any candidates in the coming general election, Khoo said that was the prerogative of the Barisan leadership.
