Pak Lah cuma menumpang kata-kata Krugman. Sebelum ini tidak pula dia berkata sedemikian. Berbanding dengan DSAI, Pak Lah tak pernah pegang portfolio kewangan. Jadi kenyataan-kenyataan dia lagi tak berasas. Kalau Si Kepala Taik tuduh DSAI zero tentang ekonomi maka Pak Lah adalah below zero.

Sept 1 will be non-event, says Dollah By Esther Ng KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia can withstand any capital outflow that occurs after Sept 1 as the country's liquidity ratio is among the highest in the world, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said yesterday.

The Deputy Prime Minister said the nation's liquidity ratio or the ratio of the amount of foreign reserves to all short term debt and principal repayments within a year was at 2.84.

MEET THE DELEGATES ... Abdullah shaking hands with participants after closing the Agricultural Exposition and convention 1999 at the PWTC yesterday.

"I think (Sept 1) will not amount to much, it will be a non-event," he said, adding that the country's reserves stood at US$31.9bil (RM121bil).

"Our reserves are enough to sustain seven months of import," he told reporters after closing the Agricultural Exposition and Convention at the Putra World Trade Centre yesterday.

Asked if foreign investments would be affected come Sept 1, Abdullah replied:

"I don't believe that they would like to pull out. Our economy is doing well. It would be better for them to keep their investments here."

He said there had not been any negative remarks about Malaysia's economy.

Our achievements so far would instil greater confidence among investors, he said, adding that this would promote further foreign direct investments in the country.

In his speech earlier, Abdullah said Malaysia made significant progress in its agricultural and rural development programmes.

Malaysia is used as a reference point for successful estate management of crops like cocoa and oil palm, he said.
