============================================================================================================================== Pay full gratuity, Cuepaces urges Govt KUALA LUMPUR: The Government should pay the full gratuity to civil servants as soon as they go on optional retirement now that the economic downturn is over, says Cuepacs. In welcoming the move by the Government to consider reverting to the old mode of full payment, Cuepacs secretary-general N. Siva Subramaniam said about 10,000 government employees who opted out over the last 18 months would benefit immediately if the proposal was approved.
"About 10,000 civil servants lost out when the Government decided in April last year to pay only 10% of the gratuity when they went on optional retirement and the rest upon reaching 55.
"The decision caused them much hardship especially to those who needed the money to finance their children's education and others who wanted to venture into business," Siva Subramaniam said yesterday.
He said many civil servants stalled their decision to retire although some of them gave health reasons when deciding to leave the service.
