Maka UMNO mengaku kalah dalam perang bendera dengan parti-parti alternatif. Itu sebab majlis-majlis tempatan diarahkan untuk turunkan semua bendera itu. Dalam mesyuarat perwakilan UMNO cakap berdekah-dekah. Kalau parti-parti naik seratus bendera, mereka boleh naik 10,000 bendera tapi realitinya mereka tak mampu lagi sebab mereka terpaksa upah buat dan pasang. Bagi parti-aprti alternatif, ahli-ahli sendiri yang buat atau beli dan mereka sendiri yang pasangkan serta jaga.

"What is more important is the capability of a political party to administer the country well," he said.
In this respect, he said the Barisan Nasional-led Government had proven itself over the years.
"It is easy to say 101 things but it is not easy to govern a multi-racial country fairly," he said when speaking to some 200 Youth participants from the Merbok Umno division who were attending a one-day information session at Jeniang, about 40km from here, on Saturday.
Mohamed Shafie, who is also Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister, said Umno Youth should realise that economic development was dependent on political stability.
"If not for our political stability and the able leadership, the country would have gone to ruins after the financial crisis which hit the country," he said.
He said the youth should have confidence in the Government.
