Keadilan must conquer Election 2000

Malaysians are geared for a new beginning in the new millenium and we will exercise our right to deny BN a majority in the upcoming elections. Keadilan has shown great promise with its line-up of impressive social activists who have long campaigned for a just society. The time is now ripe for change, for abolishment of the ISA and other oppressive acts, for a revamp of the Police force and the whole government administration. DAP has finally found a credible alliance in Keadilan and the collaboration can only bring about positive changes in the political landscape of Malaysia. However, I would like to point out some disturbing trends which may actually bring more harm and good to the opposition alliance. For one, Keadilan should be wary of ex-DAP members who continue to badmouth their former party in public because if an opposition coalition is formed in which DAP and Keadilan are members, then the act of badmouthing fellow members is certainly a disgraceful act which can leave a bad taste to potential voters. Each politician has their own agenda and their own views and if they disagree with each other, they could find alternative parties without the need to resort to back-stabbing. If ex-DAP members can create such bad press for their former party and leader and in the process, try to damage the credibility of Lim Kit Siang & co, they can equally do the same with Keadilan when their demands were not met or they became disenchanted at any point of time. Does Keadilan truly wants such members who have proven themselves to be so vicious? Such people must be made to STOP their attack IMMEDIATELY in the run-up to the elections. All must UNITE in order to topple BN. As for PAS, what is the whole point of collaborating with them when their ideologies are so far removed from that of the ordinary sane people? As the present government likes to point out, it is indeed a case of strange bedfellows. I want to see Keadilan/DAP win many seats in the upcoming elections, but certainly do not want the possibility of PAS coming into power. How does the opposition coalition resolve such conflict among the voters? I want to know and I want to make sure that my vote will not help PAS gain strength and the possibility of forming the next government. That is my fear. You must reassure your voters before they go to the polls to help you win.
