Dual calendar 'could leadto confusion'

BAGAN SERAI: Cuepacs fears that the plan by the PAS-ruled Kelantan Government to pay the salary of its civil servants according to the Hijrah (Muslim) calendar will lead to confusion, said its secretary-general Abdul Rahman Manan.

Although the move might go down well among civil servants employed by the state, he said, there were also Federal employees there.

"We fear confusion may arise as salary payments may not be made simultaneously for both state and Federal employees," he told reporters after attending the opening of the Fama employees union (Kekap) biennial AGM by Fama director-general Abi Musa Asaari Mohamed Noor at Bukit Merah Lake Town Resort yesterday.

"We are not against the move but the matter must be studied by the Federal Government," he said.

"We have informed the Prime Minister that we were not involved in the planned move and had sought his advice over it," he said.

Abdul Rahman hoped that the Kelantan Government would discuss further the plan with Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad to avoid confusion.

On another matter, Abdul Rahman said the congress executive council would meet on Oct 2 to endorse a memorandum prepared during the salary revision seminar which was held in Perlis on Aug 5.

On accommodation facilities for civil servants in Putrajaya, he said the Selangor Government had offered a 12ha site in Salak Tinggi to the Emkay Group, which plans to build 3,000 units of five-storey apartments on the land.
