Ulasan

SEREMBAN: Popular singer Siti Nurhaliza wants to forget about the incident where Parti Keadilan Nasional called for a boycott of her albums.

Instead, she now wants to help contribute to society as the goodwill ambassador of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS).

"I hope the people are clear with the statement I made several days ago," Siti Nurhaliza said after receiving the MRCS goodwill ambassador sash from Negri Sembilan Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Ja'afar Tuanku Abdul Rahman at Istana Hinggap yesterday.

"I do not foresee any problems after this and we should now put the incident behind us," she added.

SPECIAL MISSION ... Siti Nurhaliza receiving the MRCS goodwill ambassador sash from Tuanku Ja'afar at Istana Hinggap yesterday.

Keadilan's information chief Ruslan Kassim had claimed that the singer had been made use of by the country's leadership when she made a speech during her performance for the National Day celebration at Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur.

Ruslan had said that Siti Nurhaliza's speech sounded similar to that of the Prime Minister's when she asked the people to stand united and be wary of foreign elements.

On her appointment as the goodwill ambassador of MRCS, Siti Nurhaliza said she felt lucky and was proud to accept the challenge.

"I am moved by the reception at Istana Hinggap today (yesterday) as it had not been easy for the function to be arranged," she said.

She said her involvement was part of her contribution to society, particularly to the poor, adding that her participation also represented the contribution of other artistes in the country.

She hopes that her role could help influence other youths to contribute to society.

In Petaling Jaya, National Singer-Musicians Songwriters Association president A. Rahman Hassancriticised Ruslan for calling for the boycott on Siti Nurhaliza.

"The statement was uncalled for and unfair. Why must one become emotional over a call asking people to stay united.

"Siti as an individual has a right to express her views and why should people misconstrue things, especially when the call was made in a positive way," he said.
